The changing learning path
The educational scenario the world over is constantly registering subtle changes. The gamut of change in this field has been significant and substantial. Leading institutions that have acquired distinctive reputation have emerged trend setters in the field of education both for teachers and learners.
The philosophy of education is also learner-centric. The instruments that make this philosophy functional at the school and college levels has undergone changes in accordance with the dictates of times, challenges and other psychological bottlenecks faced by learners at the primary, secondary and even at tertiary level. It is an accepted fact that change is manifest in nature and impermanence being a permanent feature in nature, calls for change for the better from time to time. That is the reason why changes become necessary in the learning methodology and even in teaching patterns to address challenges and achieve specific goals.
The ecology of educational domain is widespread. The chief concern of education is to make learning spontaneous and easy even for differently-challenged learners who lag far behind average students. For this reason a lot of emphasis has been laid on interactive and group learning. Projects and assignments fall in this line of thought. This change has also necessitated changes in the teaching pattern and it remains an ongoing process.
The slow, average and intelligent learners have gone through certain phases of changes on a summative trajectory. From chalk and blackboard to learning in the open in the bosom of nature, learners now find themselves on a different learning curve with smart board learning in classrooms and easy and speedy access to information through broadband spectrum. This is a quantum jump because of a broader view developed and quantified over a period of time. Other audio-visual aids have also been customized and new software researched to meet the specific needs of learners at different levels.
It would be most appropriate for me to sum up that the learning methodology and teaching patterns have to change from time to time to address certain issues that are the demands of that particular time. All in all, research in the field of education, will continue to pose newer and greater challenges and men of higher mental faculties with the touch of intelligence will always come out with the solution.
