Students of Queen Mary’s School, Tis Hazari, Delhi, visit St Mary’s Home for the Aged on the occasion of Christmas
‘The complete life, the perfect pattern, includes old age as well as youth and maturity. Old age has its pleasures, which though different, are not less than the pleasures of youth’.
This is something which we realized when we visited an old age home. A group of students accompanied by their teachers and the manager of the school visited St Mary’s Home for the Aged, Rajpur Road, Delhi, on Monday, 17th December, 2018.
Christmas brings peace, joy and hope. It is the time to give and share your blessings with others not as fortunate as we are. Thus, the senior students of Queen Mary’s School, Tis Hazari, decided to visit and greet the ladies at St Mary’s Home for the Aged on Christmas.
Before this, our girls had never been to an old age home, so we were wondering what it would be like. The old ladies were very hospitable and friendly, and they welcomed us with their beautiful smiles. To break the monotony of their lives the girls carried a sumptuous lunch and gifts for them, hoping this would bring some cheer into their lives. The girls distributed the gifts amongst the inmates and sang Christmas carols to lift their spirits. Some of the abler old ladies joined the girls in the singing of the carols. This programme was followed by lunch served by the students. The elderly ladies thoroughly enjoyed the lunch.
Though the girls spent only a few hours with them, the senior ladies made them realize the value of grandparents and the tenderness with which we need to take care of them. The girls realized that their love for their family, particularly their grandparents has grown stronger and deeper.
After lunch the inmates happily bid goodbye to the girls as it was their siesta time. Everyone came back happy and richer by the experience of interacting with the old ladies.
