Padmashree Milkha Singh launches ‘Read India’

007One of largest premier educational content provider of the country, S Chand Group today launched its CSR initiative Read India in association with Round Table India. Padma Shree Milkha Singh launched the initiative by distributing books to the library of Rao Saraswati Meharchand Vidya Mandir a government school in Bhalasawa. Read India is a CSR initiative of S. Chand Group along with Round Table India, under which the group will be setting up libraries with around 300 – 400 books per school in approximately 700 government schools (under Round Table India).

Read India initiative will enable students of government schools to access books of almost all subjects including Science, Maths, General Studies, and General Knowledge without any fees or remuneration. These books will be available to students from Kindergarten to Class 8 in these schools.

Not every child has access to good books but Read India will help to educate and develop reading habits in approximate 3,50,000 under-privileged students of 700 schools. Students will have access to good quality books which are not always available in such schools. Project Read India will roll out within approximately three months and the books will be available to the schools within 90 days.

‘We, at S Chand Group, are committed to improving the lives of millions of underprivileged children across India, by giving them quality education and developing better reading and learning habits, thereby accelerating the growth in the education sector. Read India project is an initiative which will help close to 3,50,000 underprivileged students in 700 schools across 120 cities in India. We are making a beginning by donating 400-500 books to the libraries in each of these schools.’ – Himanshu Gupta, Joint Managing Director, S Chand Group.
