The matter of distance, location etc in the field of education is now ‘so much for something’.
Students can gain knowledge and learn, sitting at any corner of the world; if they have access to the internet. It has made it possible to find a needle in a haystack to impart knowledge and develop skills in our students.
The entire education system now revolves around the internet. Apart from textbook knowledge, the internet provides a wide range of learning platforms which let the child explore beyond the textbook, develop critical thinking, and enable them to be creative and innovative. Some of the valuable and interesting platforms for the school children are Geneo, which provides curated learning content specific to each school grade from class V to class X. All the learning content is mapped chapter wise to the NCERT textbook. It helps in creating a strong conceptual foundation. Just like a coin has two sides, the internet too has its pros and cons. It is the responsibility of the individual how he or she uses it and how one utilizes its resources. A major advantage of the internet is the ability to access all types of information from library resources all over the world. Here is the task of the teacher to guide the students where they can acquire useful information. Even schools need to install the various devices or software which will help them to keep a check on students’ activity. Students need to be trained how to handle digital media efficiently being away from cybercrime, cyberbullying etc. They are also to guide how much time they should give to online platforms. Textbooks are precious and no matter how much knowledge the internet has to offer us, we need to train our students to read books. Moreover, if we read books it helps us to study any topic thoroughly, on the other hand the internet might give us all information but all websites cannot provide us reliable and valid knowledge.
The National Digital Library Of India is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search browse but provides a host of services to the learner community. Then there are Universal Digital Library, Directory of Open Access Books, Internet Archive etc which furnish every learner with ample resources as per their needs.
