‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’
Education is a fundamental human right and is the key to the progress of any country.
Education unquestionably is an indispensable means for people to realize their capabilities and is a catalyst for development of the nation as a whole. Global Development Education is a lifelong process which helps us to understand the differences and similarities between the lives of people in developing and developed countries and helps to understand the economic, social, political, environmental and cultural processes that affect them. Therefore, the world must recognise how immense the need of education is. Hence, Education for Global Development should be placed on the top of the global development agenda. This is because education, from local to global is much more than what happens only in schools. Classroom teaching today educates children not only of their own societies, but also inculcates values and ideas and equips the citizens with skills needed globally through various ways.\
In the present era nothing is restricted to a particular place or region, therefore to make the world a better place to live in, education needs to reach every corner across the globe. For global development, education should play a pivotal role to prepare the future generation for life in today’s interconnected world because it is through education that we can eradicate the ignorance of the immediate surroundings and its influence in the life of an individual. Global education will help to draw a connection and equip the students with the knowledge of happenings around the world. It will bring a positive effect on the people and the environment in every corner of the globe.
Education is a definite way to discover and learn the current crisis or progress in world affairs, through which people of one country learn from another, and also develop better understanding. Knowledge about the world helps to think critically and creatively about climatic change, conflicts, crisis or any other information and we can contemplate on the effects of the decisions taken whether positive or not so positive. Through education it is possible to get globally connected as it also becomes possible to participate in public affairs.
Global leaders need to realise that we will not be able to achieve our vision of a prosperous, healthy and peaceful world without education. Since the world’s educational needs are huge, and the importance of meeting them is profound, the international community’s capacity to think over it needs to grow simultaneously. Many such responsible authorities are working to support this progress and are prepared to implement major reforms in expanding technical capability, resource mobilisation and mutual accountability, leading to improvement in all countries.
Obtaining quality education is the foundation to improve lives and development. Basic literacy skills have improved in many countries but we need to do much more as bolder efforts are needed to achieve universal education goals.
In today’s world, technology is used liberally as a creative and imaginative tool in the methodology of education. But technology should not be restricted to only advanced countries, instead it needs to travel to all parts of the globe as it can be incredibly empowering when used in a positive manner.
Global Education should initiate:
Universalisation of enrolment in primary education.
Education needs to reach every village.
We need to ensure all girls complete at least secondary education, for educating a girl is educating a family. Through education we can achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls to have a voice, avert child marriage, and choose a family size.
Education ensures sanitation, stops unemployment and improves infrastructure
Education is the route to global development. Students are no more restricted to one region for desired study frame. It is, therefore, the need of the hour to have generic knowledge of different countries both physical and political. Quality education is the foundation for growth, public health and economic growth of the country. It is hence the responsibility of the government to give quality training and required budget to improve the standards of institutions. Schools need to take responsibility sincerely to ensure that quality time is given to the students to make them better human beings and responsible enough to protect the world in every sphere.
